z px-Hirdaramani-IndustriesThe Hirdaramani Group marks yet another milestone in its commitment to sustainable manufacturing with the awarding of LEED Gold Certification to one of its largest factories, Hirdaramani Industries Kuruwita (HI Kuruwita). The certification was awarded under the LEED for Existing Buildings Version 3.0 standard, and with a point score of 77 HI Kuruwita is one of the highest scoring Gold Certified factories in its class.

The most widely recognized and widely used green building program across the globe, LEED is a certification program for buildings, homes and communities that guides design, construction, operations and maintenance. Managed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED is certifying 1.5 million square feet of building space each day in over 135 countries.

One of the longest operating and largest factories in the Hirdaramani Group’s portfolio, HI Kuruwita specializes in woven products and boasts a monthly production of over 350,000 garments. The conversion of the factory commenced in early 2013. “Obtaining LEED certification within a 12 month period was a daunting challenge and we are very proud of the HI Kuruwita team for achieving this target,” said Tony Nadaraja, Director of the Hirdaramani Group and CEO of the Woven Cluster. We are also thankful to Co-energi who audited and consulted on this project for their excellent guidance, he added.

“Social responsibility has always been an essential philosophy at Hirdaramani and the environment has become a major element of this agenda. The certification of HI Kuruwita is part of Hirdaramani’s overall Sustainability Strategy which is being implemented across all factories within the Group and we hope to have many more milestones in the near future,” said Aroon Hirdaramani, Director of the Hirdaramani Group.

Hirdaramani holds the notable achievements of having the World’s First Custom Built Eco Friendly Apparel Factory and Asia’s First CarbonNeutral & Apparel factory in its portfolio, laying credence to the Group’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing. The achievements at HI Kuruwita showcase the practical effect of sustainable policies which in addition having a positive environmental impact also results in exceptional operational efficiency and an improved work environment.
