The sector is targeting revenue in excess of US$ 6 billion in 2016. President of the Sri Lanka Apparel Brands Association of Sri Lanka (SLABA) Indradatta Dharmawardane at the Association launch at Cinnamon Lakeside said the industry is moving steadily ahead with no major hiccups.

He disclosed that Sri Lanka's retail apparel market is estimated to be around US $ 2 billion and 40% of this market share is from Sri Lankan brands. “We now feel that more Sri Lankan brands could enter the global market and we are now looking at new markets in Africa and also in the Gulf.” The Association plans to expand market opportunities through the introduction of International Market Places (as in Thailand, Indonesia and China) for tourists and business travellers with a variety catering to all segments.
