The Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association (SLAEA) held its 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 27 January 2026 at The Studio, Cinnamon Life, Colombo, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, diplomats, and partners to reflect on industry performance and discuss the way forward.

 

Formal Business Session

Members addressed the statutory agenda, including confirmation of the previous AGM minutes, adoption of the audited financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2025, approval of the Executive Committee’s Annual Report, elections to the Executive Committee and Council, and the re‑appointment of auditors.

 

Distinguished Participation

The AGM was attended by local and international dignitaries, led by Dr. Satyanjal Pandey, Acting Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, representing H.E. Santosh Jha, and Hon. Chathuranga Abeysinghe, Deputy Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development. Representatives from diplomatic missions including France, Italy, the United States, and the European Union further highlighted Sri Lanka’s role within global apparel supply chains.

 

Chairperson’s Address

In her address, Ms. Rajitha Jayasuriya, Chairperson of SLAEA, highlighted the industry’s resilience amid global and domestic challenges. She noted positive export growth in 2025, supported by stronger performance in key markets, renewed momentum in Europe, and continued diversification.

She emphasized the importance of trade policy, sustainability, and digital transformation, underscoring the need to protect preferential market access, strengthen trade diplomacy, and align with evolving EU sustainability and due‑diligence requirements.

 

Looking Ahead

The AGM reaffirmed priorities for 2026 and beyond, including deeper regional engagement, accelerated digital reforms, investment in skills and technology, and continued leadership in ethical and sustainable apparel manufacturing.

The meeting concluded with appreciation to members and partners, and a collective call to move forward with confidence strengthening Sri Lanka’s position as a trusted and future‑ready apparel sourcing destination.
