SLAEA Chronicles
The Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association (SLAEA) represents over 70% of the country’s apparel exports and serves as the industry’s leading voice. For decades, it has guided the sector’s growth by influencing policy, engaging with key boards and associations, and strengthening Sri Lanka’s position in the global apparel market.
For over four decades, SLAEA has been a driving force behind Sri Lanka’s apparel success:
- 1978: SLAEA was founded as the first national body representing apparel exporters.
- 1980s–90s: Played a key advisory role during Free Trade Zone expansion and helped shape export policy.
- 2000s: Became a strong voice in global campaigns for ethical manufacturing, including “Garments Without Guilt.”
- 2010s: Partnered with industry and government to advance innovation, sustainability, and workforce development.
- 2020s: Guided the industry through global disruptions, promoting digitalization and Industry 4.0 practices

The Employers' Federation of Ceylon
